After Jose Mourinho's dramatic departure mid-week there was extra spice to the usual hype surrounding this game, however referee Mike Dean will grab all the headlines after his controversial sending-off of John Obi Mikel helped United to score two past a ten-men Chelsea and take three crucial points.

A 45th Carlos Tevez goal, his first for the Red Devils, and a dubious late penalty won and scored by Luis Saha was enough for Manchester United to comfortably beat a Chelsea team that had been reduced to ten-men since the 31st minute.

A game that should have been an opportunity to judge a Chelsea team under new manager Avram Grant was dashed by two contentious decisions by Mike Dean. Sending Mikel off made it 15 red-cards in 21 games for Dean, who didn’t endear himself further to the Blues in the last 5 minutes as he gave a penalty against Ben Haim.

The big referee decisions aside their was some very good football on display. United seem to have finally got back to the winning form from last season, whilst Chelsea showed the fighting qualities that has become their trademark.

disappointing. even more disappointing when as a REDS follower since 1990, Benitez had the cheek to leave out striker Fernando Torres out of the starting-lineup.. CCB! was he injured?? tired??? gone mad?? NO RIGHT! jus play your best 11 for christ sake! get the advantage, and sub those 2nd best out in the 2nd half. last week he left out Gerrard, Babel and Torres and wat happens??? the game was as gd as finish. all 3 players came on but their opponents have make themselves used to the conditions then.... its the fucking same scenerio last night.

Mourinho QUIT!!!...

Chelsea have confirmed reports that they've unexpectedly parted company with manager Jose Mourinho (pictured) after a crisis meeting this evening.

Mourinho is reported to have text messaged five senior players this evening to tell them that he is leaving the Blues, who could only draw at home with Rosenborg in their opening Champions League tie on Tuesday.

The set-back followed disappointing results in the Premiership against both Aston Villa and Blackburn, results that had left Mourinho visibly on the edge.

The Portuguese coach was said to have fallen out with owner Roman Abramovich last season, over a disagreement over the lack of funds to sign players during last January's transfer window.

Mourinho's reluctance to play Andriy Shevchenko and the Russian's desire to bring in Grant from Portsmouth to work with the misfiring striker only served to heighten the tension.

The 'Special One' still had three years left on a contract, worth a staggering £6.5m a year, but Abramovich is believed to be prepared pay a huge slice of that in order to end their relationship.

Former Israel coach Avram Grant, recruited in the summer as director of football, is expected to take charge of the side for Sunday's Premier League clash with Manchester United.

As for Mourinho, he will not be short of job offers.

Of the 185 games he was in charge of Chelsea, they won 124, drew 40 and lost 21, a record that includes a 60-match unbeaten run in Premier League matches at Stamford Bridge.
