Grant sacking unavoidable...

Grant's sacking, was no great surprise after messages from Chelsea's hierarchy since their defeat on penalties to Manchester United in Moscow gave him no cause to start planning for the future.

No surprise - but still a startling example of what football has become at the sharp end. It may be madness but this is now the price on the ticket for some managers.

It is a sign of the cut-throat nature of the modern game that a decent, dignified man is sacked three days after missing out on club football's biggest honour by the width of a post and on the Premier League title on the last day of the season.

The 53-year-old Israeli was perceived as dour and low-key, despite time revealing Grant's dry sense of humour and quiet decency in the face of almost daily questions about his future.

And yet he kept his head and kept Chelsea in the title race until the final afternoon, and achieved a feat beyond even the celebrated Mourinho when he defeated Liverpool to guide the club to their first Champions League final.

Grant handled himself in a way that did him huge credit right up until his final moments in charge, when he received generous applause from the world's media following his Moscow press conference.

He will now go in search of another chance to prove his credentials - and he can leave Chelsea with his head held high.

but football is no ordinary world, especially not at a club with one of the world's richest men at the helm, a man for whom second place is as bad finishing bottom of the pile.

Manchester derby recap (FANZONE )

this video is dedicated to those who are Anything But United fan. :P

funny clip! lolx

all square after 90 minutes.

i wasn't interested who will win bcos my beloved Liverpool is not in e final (sad to say...)

Pete aka soccersiao got right on his prediction, a draw and 2 goals after normal-time. me too, got it right again.. when i predicted a draw after 90mins on postman.com... when 2 teams are able to get into e final, whether its a scrappy affair or jus cushion thru.. in a final... there's no favourites or underdogs... both equally have e chance to win it.

and last night it was Man United who savour the sweetness of winning their 3rd European trophy after success in 1968 and that unforgettable 1998-99 treble season.

a draw was though a fair result. i thot a 0-0 draw after e 1st-half was enough for me to win a 2-hour stay in hotel 81 for some edgy affair... but knn, score so fast... PFA player of e year Ronaldo got onto e scoresheet first before Lampard levelled wif jus seconds to e end of e first period.

2nd-half til end of extra-time nothin comes thru and e game was to be settled on penalties. United prevail 6-5 on penalties after United keeper Van de Sar saved from Nicolas Anelka.

hate to say but congrats to United victory over Chelsea....

ON PENALTIES ONLY... nothing more... :P

.

Manchester United do the double!!

Its 4.30am, Thursday morning. Its the Champions League final. Neither Man Utd nor Chelsea lifted the cup yet as both teams were tie at the normal 90 mins. Goals from Ronaldo (42nd this season) in the 26th min and Frank Lampard equalised just before halftime.

No time to post more..

Here's the penalty highlight..

Champion League Final

Gonna stay up for this BIG match. 2 English teams playing each other again to wrestle for the European crown.

Man Utd with 26 fit players will be trying for the third time and Chelsea 1st ever European final. Luck had been on Chelsea's side this term. Own goal from Deivid (Fenerbahce) in the quarter final 1st leg gave Chelsea hope and Chelsea won 2 nil on the return leg at home.

And not forgetting Riise's own goal diving header in the dying minutes of the semi final 1st leg gave Chelsea advantage for the return leg and they went to win 3 - 2.

Man Utd beat Roma and Barcelona to advance into the final. Needless to say, I am rooting for my fav team to lift the cup again.

2007/2008 Barclays Premier League Champion

Alex Ferguson was delighted at winning his 10th league title.

We are the champions, my friends
And well keep on fighting, till the end
We are the champions
We are the champions
No time for losers
cause we are the champions, of the world

Nerermind they sung out of tune cos they are not singers, but professional footballers. Manchester United clinched their 10th Premier League title at the JJB stadium when they beat Wigan 2 nil. Tensions were high from the 1st min from kickoff as they knew they must score in case Chelsea score.

Cristiano Ronaldo make no mistake from the spot in the 33rd min when Rooney was brought down in the box by Emmerson Boyce. The goal equal Alan Shearer's Premier League of 31 goals. Scholes was lucky not to be red carded by referee Steve Bennett when he body checked into Wilson Palacios and with a yellow card with him earlier.

The deadlock was finally broken for Chelsea when the 30 mil flop Shevchenko tapped the ball into Boltan's net after Lampard's shot was blocked in the 62th min. Roman was a happy man, thou his eyes can't be seen cos he's wearing shades, his white teeth shows it all.

From there, it was a long 28 min for Sir Alex. Wigan kept attacking and old boy Steve Bruce never gave chance. He sub Antoine Sibierski (forward) for Marcus Bent (forward) and Marlon King (forward) for Michael Brown (midfielder). Sir Alex Ferguson not wanting to be outdone, he brought on Hargreaves for Scholes and Giggs for Park.

Giggs, making his 758th United appearance equalled Sir Bobby Charlton's record, scored when he slotted Rooney's through ball.

Kevin Davies's 92nd min strike added woes to Chelsea's camp as the boys from London also lost John Terry with shoulder injury.

Full result. Only kenna Boro.. Can't imaging 9 goals & AOS is how much for tat game.. Fulham stayed up as I predicted thou Reading and Birmingham City won 4 nil & 4 - 1 respectively. Liverpool's reject Danny Murphy's header was enough to let Fulham to continue in the top flight.

Derby 0 - 4 Reading (0 - 1)
Everton 3 - 1 Newcastle United (1 - 0)
Wigan 0 - 2 Manchester United (0 - 1)
Middlesbrough 8 - 1 Manchester City (2 - 0) *(3.50 + 3.30)
Tottenham Hotspur 0 - 2 Liverpool (0 - 0)
Portsmouth 0 - 1 Fulham (0 - 0)
Chelsea FC 1 - 1 Bolton Wanderers (0 - 0)
Birmingham City 4 - 1 Blackburn Rovers (1 - 0)
West Ham 2 - 2 Aston Villa (1 - 1)
Sunderland 0 - 1 Arsenal (0 - 1)

To Man Utd: You're simply the best, better than all the rest.

off to Moscow in 10 days time for the UEFA Champions League final between Man Utd and Chelsea...

TIL NEXT SEASON...

hello hello readers of TAK GIU LAND... after a long drastic season... and the closest title race in 13 yrs.. it comes down tonight, defending champion Man United travel to e JJB facing Wigan who had not even draw with them since gaining promotion to e top-flight. Chelsea meanwhile entertains Bolton in London.

as much as i fucking hate United. i do not see them slipping up esp. how they contained West Ham last wkend. winning 1-0 will be enough... but wld United be happy scoring one goal and sitting back?? i doubt so... Chelsea have to make a goal avalanche in order to overhaul United on goal difference. but thats impossible. unless United fails to beat Wigan.

down at e league table, Reading looks e more likely to follow Derby down to e Championship nxt season. Fulham have get themselves a lifeline by winning their last game. against a team whose concern is e FA Cup final and a league place secure. expect Fulham comes out firing and secure a win.

i probably be down at Sketches, Robertson Walk. supporters hole for Liverpool FC, to catch ESPN broadcast of e game between Tottenham n Liverpool. nothing to play for.. e home side secure a UEFA Cup place courtesy of their Carling Cup triumph in Feb. Liverpool needs to sort out their boardroom mess after tonight. 0-0 i reckon.

for this blog dedicated most to e Barclays Premier League. for me, is e best league in e world. til nxt season in August.... :)

Title finalise on final day.

NEWCASTLE v CHELSEA
0-2 (0-0)

Goals from Michael Ballack and Florent Malouda handed Chelsea a deserved win against Newcastle and ensured the title race will go down to the final day.

Michael Owen had two first-half chances to give Newcastle the lead, while Ballack miscued when through on goal.

But Chelsea took control after the break, Ballack nodding in on 61 minutes and Malouda calmly adding a second.

The win moved Chelsea level on points with Manchester United, though their goal difference is vastly inferior.

said Kevin Keegan after the game;
"I like Avram Grant very much and think this Chelsea side is exceptional.

"In any other season they would have been worthy champions but I can't see Manchester United slipping up at Wigan - even on that pitch, which isn't very good.

"I think we gave Chelsea a hell of a game in the first half today but their class shone through.

"But they are both quality sides with great players, who will be worthy champions."

Chelsea boss Avram Grant has urged his players to round off "one of the club's best seasons" with a win over Bolton next week to keep the title race alive.

The Blues are level on points again with leaders Manchester United after a 2-0 win at Newcastle, and Grant said: "This season has been one of our best.

"We achieved our aim of getting to the Champions League final and we have also improved our play on the pitch.

"Now we must beat Bolton and see what United do. The pressure is on them."

United know a win over Wigan next week will almost certainly secure them a 10th Premier League title as their goal difference is far superior to Chelsea's.

But Grant hailed his players' efforts this season, saying: "We have to battle with things on and off the pitch, but the team have got better and better, especially in recent months.

Roy Keane is planning a major overhaul at Sunderland after losing patience with some of his players.

Keane has kept Sunderland in the Premier League following their promotion in 2007 but is not happy with his team's performances this season.

"We've lost 22 games this season and people keep telling me we've had a good season, but I'm lucky to still be in a job," he said.

He admitted he needed to "invest wisely and move some people on".

"That will be done this week - if not this week, then the following week," he said.

"It's irrelevant to me whether players are under contract. If they are, you just pay them up to go because you want certain characters.

Matt Derbyshire, Stephen Warnock and Martin Olsson have agreed new contracts with Blackburn, which will run until the summer of 2012.

England under-21 striker Derbyshire and former Liverpool defender Warnock have featured regularly this season.

Swedish left-back Olsson, however, made only his second Premier League appearance when he came on as a sub in Saturday's 3-1 win over Derby.

Rovers have enjoyed a successful season and currently lie seventh in the table.

"It is a massive thing to be offered a new contract and when you see how the club is progressing, then you want to be a part of that - and things are going well, so I can't really argue," said Warnock, who cost just more than £1m when he joined Rovers last year.

Kevin Keegan insists he can do nothing to turn Newcastle into a club that can challenge for the Premier League title.

Newcastle were beaten 2-0 by Chelsea on Monday and Keegan says they are some way from competing with the top teams.

"I thought. 'what can I do next year to get near them' and the truth is there's nothing I can do at all," he said.

"Maybe the owner thinks we can bridge that gap - but we can't. This league is in danger of becoming one of the most boring but great leagues in the world."

However Keegan is positive he will get the funds he needs from owner Mike Ashley to improve his squad, saying: "I have no proof of that yet but I have no doubts he will (back me). "If I can get three or four players in to add to what I have got here - and we have that bit of luck you need with no injuries to key players - then we might be able to win the second division of the Premier League."

AC Milan have completed the signing of Mathieu Flamini from Arsenal on a four-year deal.

The French international, whose deal at the Emirates ran out this summer, has passed a medical and agreed terms to stay at the San Siro until 2012.

The departure will come as a blow to Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, who had offered the 24-year-old a new deal.

Flamini had been a key player this season, making 39 starts in midfield and scoring three times.

While Flamini will battle with Kaka, Andrea Pirlo, Gattuso and Massimo Ambrosini for a place in the Rossoneri's midfield, Wenger is left searching for a suitable replacement. That search for midfield reinforcements could become even more pressing if Alexander Hleb follows Flamini to Italy, with Inter Milan being reportedly interested.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson believes Newcastle could cause an upset against Chelsea on Monday.

United moved within touching distance of the title after a comfortable 4-1 win over West Ham at Old Trafford.

Chelsea need at least a point against Newcastle to retain any hopes of pipping Sir Alex Ferguson's side to the Premier League title.

"The way Chelsea have been talking is that it'll be easy up there - but we know that's not the case," he said.

United are three points ahead of Chelsea with a superior goal difference but have played a game more.

They face Wigan away on the final day of the season.

Chelsea play Newcastle at St James' Park on Monday before playing Bolton at home on 11 May.

A win against Wigan next week, or any slip ups by Chelsea in their last two games, will secure a second successive title for Ferguson's side.

Ferguson also praised Cristiano Ronaldo, whose first-half double took him to 40 for the season and left him just one adrift of Alan Shearer's 31-goal Premier League record.

Birmingham boss Alex McLeish admits his side have to go for broke in their last home game against Blackburn in a bid to stay in the Premier League.

A 2-0 defeat at relegation rivals Fulham leaves Birmingham facing the drop back into the Championship.

McLeish said: "We have got nothing to lose now. We have to go for it.

"We are at home. We will have the encouragement of the whole of St Andrews, and I am sure our players will feed off all of that energy."

McLeish confessed he was disappointed with the manner of the two goals Birmingham conceded to leave Fulham with a genuine chance of survival going into their final game at Portsmouth.

He said: "I felt we had good chances in the first half and there was certainly no panic when we got to half-time goalless. I thought we were pretty comfortable.

"We shot ourselves in the foot, with the second goal especially, caught by a mistake when we were going for it. We needed to defend well, especially at set pieces, and unfortunately for us the first goal from Brian McBride was from a Fulham free-kick.

AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani has claimed that Arsenal midfielder Mathieu Flamini is on the verge of signing for the Italian club.

The French midfielder's contract with the Gunners expires at the end of this season - and manager Arsene Wenger has admitted he is wary Flamini will leave.

The 24-year-old is expected to undergo a medical at the San Siro on Monday.

Despite the offer of a new five-year deal from Arsenal, Flamini's future remains unresolved and both AC Milan and Juventus are reported to have been tracking the France international.

Following Arsenal's 1-0 win over Everton on Sunday, the Gunners' last home game of the season, Wenger conceded that he was not "super-confident" Flamini would still be with the club next season.

ALL-ENGLISH FINALE in Moscow.

Real Madrid vs Valencia in 2000.

AC Milan vs Juventus in 2003.

right now its time the English flag flying high in Moscow on 21st May. Chelsea 3rd time lucky at the expense of Liverpool after a thrilling 3-2 extra-time victory on Wednesday night. together with Manchester United winning Barcelona a night before. for the first time since European Cup was named the Champions League had we witness a all-English final.

both teams going all the way down the wired for Barclays Premier League crown. and both in contention for Europe club biggest prize. who will prevail and who will capture both domestic & European crown?? its hard to separate both clubs.

for now, both have tough assignment on hands. Man United welcome the visit of West Ham in tomorrow first kick-off of the day. the Red Devils will be under intense pressure to get something out of this game as Chelsea will only featured at St James Park 48 hours later.

United though hadn't been performing well against the Hammers. losing 1-2 in the reverse fixture. but knowing well they have to win at all cost will the pressure be back on the Blues to deliver against their bogey team in recent seasons, Newcastle United.

this weekend. United will once again be slight favourites being at home and a crown they seek to defend at all costs.
