wat a weekend!

to add on, few upsets. things like H-A or A-H... :P

DERBY vs BLACKBURN
1-2 (1-2)

MAN CITY vs LIVERPOOL
0-0
home record still intact after city survived a Liverpool 2nd-half onslaught.

BIRMINGHAM vs FULHAM
1-1 (0-1)
no. of ah pek thot birmingham wld give the cottagers another hammering but under the eye of new manager Roy Hodgson. fulham have something to prove.

CHELSEA vs NEWCASTLE
2-1 (1-0)
its pretty obvious this is a eat ball game. but odds opened at 1.63 and keeps dropping.... so i gave up betting. Ashley Cole lost the appeal for his red card against Aston Villa. he did not featured in this game. together with Carvalho. Terry, Lampard injured. Essien, Drogba, Kalou on African Nations Cup duty. Manager Avram Grant needs enforcements and fast.

EVERTON vs ARSENAL
1-4 (1-0)
few would have thot the gunners wld have it easy at Goodison Park. Arsenal beginning to work quietly. H-A for this game and quite unexpectedly.

PORTSMOUTH vs MIDDLESBROUGH
0-1 (0-1)
expected... :D

SUNDERLAND vs BOLTON
3-1 (2-1)
unexpected. sunderland give -1.5 at $5.20.

TOTTENHAM vs READING
6-4 (1-1)
for spurs, whenever they win or win big.. they sure let their opponents to score at least one. this game widely unexpected... total goals 9+ and AOS for pick-the-score. big $$ man but who wld have thought. lol.. lets recap when Reading was away to Portsmouth if im not wrong. 7-4?

WIGAN vs ASTON VILLA
1-2 (1-0)
villa awarded for their efforts in the thrilling 4-4 with Chelsea in the last round. H-A again. big $$.

WEST HAM vs MAN UNITED
2-1 (0-1)
watching this game at 848 with scores of United fans ard me. not surprise when United took the lead from man at the moment, C. Ronaldo. but missed a penalty in the 2nd-half, West Ham took advantage and clinched it from 2 centre-backs. not forwards ok? Anton Ferdinand & Matthew Upson. A-H at $50.

i missed out on betting bcos on last weekend of last 2 yrs. i lose BIG... so i stayed away this time round and true enough... couple of shocks and upsets... when its so sure the team will stay up, ur betting slip got burn instead. :P

already 102nd posts now, Pete & I wld truly appreciate if there's more visitors wld drop by and shout at us at the shoutbox provided here. i hope for more zun zun predictions and beat those tipsters at New Paper. lol... :)

HAVE A BLESSED AND MORE FORTUNE 2008 guys.

Another highlighted game was Spurs vs Reading. Spurs scored 5 the last time, this time they scored 6..

Birmingham C. 1 - 1 Fulham (1 - 1)
Chelsea 2 - 1 Newcastle U. (1 - 0)
Portsmouth 0 - 1 Middlesbrough (1 - 0)
Sunderland 3 - 1 Bolton W. (2 - 1)
Tottenham H. 6 - 4 Reading (1 - 1)
West Ham U. 2 - 1 Manchester U. (0 - 1)
Wigan Athletic 1 - 2 Aston Villa (1 - 0)
Everton 1 - 4 Arsenal (1 - 0)
Derby County 1 - 2 Blackburn R. (1 - 2)
Manchester C. 0 - 0 Liverpool

Sg pool big winner.

Another high scoring week, many dramas..

Was telling Bern about strange odds offered by sg pool for Reading and Newcastle. Reading odds dropped to 8 plus from 9 plus within 2 hours after late opening odds by sg pool. Same as Newcastle, open at $10, to 8.80, then 5.75 before closing.. Heavy betting on these 2 teams by punters?? Or is it sg pool playing with the odds to create impression that these 2 teams are really heavy betting. Only they know the answer...

Mu threw the game away.. Look at the way Ronaldo take the penalty and all his previous attempts, this time, he powered, rather than placement. Also his eyes were "Glued" to the ball till the ball hit the advertisement board.

December 28, 2007

My pick for Boxing Day's match of the day.

8 GOALS, 3 SENDING OFFS, 2 FLOPS SCORING, 0 WINNER..

What can we ask for??

Still monitoring opening for this weekend's games... strange odds... Watch this space.

I'll be back...

Arsenal no firepower, MAN CITY - B'BURN preview

POST-MATCH MORTEM. BERN, not that Mac fella reporting from LONDON,

wah biang eh.. 4-4... simi score-line... no one ok.. no BLOODY PERSON could have predicted such a score. but don't forget up til last nite game at Stamford Bridge. there's a 4-4 scoreline.. and involving Aston Villa as well. again as the away side in that thrilling DRAW with tottenham.

no we know football is not over til ITS OVER. Michael Ballack and that 30m pounding flop flop flop dun know wat came over them... contributed to 4 of Chelsea goals. the former thought;

ho seh liao... villa gone!

clock reads 88th min. but kudos to Villa. bcos they keep playing the Hokkien song; "keep fucking then can win" in their dressing rm many many times. Gareth Barry, the villians skipper is so cool that if i gal hor.. wld run up to kiss him before he take the penalty... wat a cool finish.....

i tell you people, that knn bull-doggy sulky face named Grant. after last nite... (with already Terry out til Feb. Cech, think he was eatin peanut butter when Maloney scored Villa 2nd goal. looked off-form. Drogba injured. now Carvalho and "lui-bin" Cole kena red card. Essien, Kalou leaving for African Cup in Jan.) think his head will become bigger liao. hahahaaa....

Portsmouth last 3 league games at home. twice 0-0, and lost 0-1 to Spurs. so no surprise last nite game ended goalless.... :)

Red Devils, w/o players like Anderson, Giggs, Tevez... makes it look so easy as they brush aside a tame Sunderland side at stadium of light. Ronaldo scoring from a free-kick, his 17th of the campaign. The United team, not looking tired but stronger thru-out the festive period.

TONIGHT:

Manchester City midfielder Michael Johnson is a major doubt after suffering an abdominal complaint.

Emile Mpenza has a minor muscle strain but is expected to be fit to play, while Stephen Ireland is available after a three-match ban.

Blackburn trio Robbie Savage, Stephen Warnock and Keith Treacy are all suspended for the trip to City.

But central defender Christopher Samba is available for selection after serving a one-match ban.

BERN's point;
Manchester City boast the best record at home in the top-flight, winning 9 out of 9. thats y they are in top 6. with a visit by Liverpool on Sun. then a trip to Tyneside on Jan 2. any dickhead wld think City have to win. this being a home game. i dun see Blackburn taking anything from here... probably a point. but City i guess will be on their toes... after a scare by Reading from their visit.

1-0/2-1
LS: -1.5

.

What a BOXING DAY!!!

The cash register is ringing for sillypools....this time instead of collecting money from punters, I think they are giving money..

But, they still win la, who would had pick 4 - 4 score for Chelsea's game and 5 - 1 for Spurs's game?? 8 goals got 80 bucks leh..SO THEY MAKAN ALL AGAIN.

Today not bad, Jackpot on most games. :D
Flipped thru TNP, actually Gary Lim quite zhun, tio alot man, second is Eric Ding. (think must take part in the Reader vs Tipster challenge myself also....)

West Ham 1 - 1 Reading (1 - 0) 3.15 + 6.50 + 3.30
Tottenham Hotspur 5 - 1 Fulham (2 - 0)
Chelsea FC 4 - 4 Aston Villa (1 - 2) 3.60
Wigan 1 - 0 Newcastle United (0 - 0) 2.63
Birmingham City 3 - 0 Middlesbrough (2 - 0) 2.20 + 3.60
Sunderland 0 - 4 Manchester United (0 - 3) 1.85
Derby 1 - 2 Liverpool (0 - 1) 1.60
Everton 2 - 0 Bolton Wanderers (0 - 0) 2.90

BOXING DAY!!! box SINGA-GAR-POT PUIIIOOOLLS...

ooi! Luis.. knn, i posted my comment why u never published on New Paper... kns!..

spoke to soccersiao on Monday over drinks at Bala.. (kns.. no char bor to bio..) he encourage me to take part in NP tipster challenge.. alrite.. can, i got the confidence one... but PLEASE.. no Miller, no Gay Lim.. I want that Ah Ding ding ding ding, Ah Ding ding ding*... i think his picks quite Zun one.. it be a healthy competition.. if im against him... ok.. no more cok talk.. here's the predictions;

TOTTENHAM vs FULHAM
spurs has that kelong kia Robber Keane who missed a penalty before the Gunners delivered the killer blow in a 2-1 loss away in their last game, before that spurs won 3 in a row.

the cotton-wool... did not score in 2 of their last away games... instead losing 3-0/2-0 respectively against Everton & Man United. i dun see them scoring.

2-0/3-1

CHELSEA vs ASTON VILLA
goalkeeper Cech is out, 2nd choice Cudicini also out together with Drogba, Hilario deputise in goal.

in last 6 league games, the villians performed better on the road than at home, unbeaten in last 4 meetings with the blues.. beating -1.5 handicap shld be no problem.

+1.5

WIGAN vs NEWCASTLE
DRAW
LS: 3-2

DERBY vs LIVERPOOL
surprisingly, derby score 3 goals in their last 5 league games. all coming on the road. once against Man United and 2 in their last game against Newcastle which ended 2-2 with the Rams leading the game twice.

despite not scoring at home, the Rams did not concede more than 2 goals. against my fav. REDS, derby have to do more to subdue the likes of Torres who's becoming a bargain despite the huge price tag that comes along.

0-3

PORTSMOUTH vs ARSENAL
0/2 goals

.

D-H

MANCHESTER UNITED vs EVERTON
both coming into this game at Old Trafford full of morale. the red devils chalked up 5 consecutive wins since the defeat away to Bolton. the toffees, having done so well.. collecting 5 wins and a draw going into this game. i going for merseyside to beat the handicap.

Need to say more?

90th post.

wat the fuck is wrong with tnp postman? i can't see my comment after submitting! cheeze....

yah.. Liverpool once again lost to United. not Reds lousy... United simply good. well, they are the defending champions.. ive no complains bout it.

after last night, among BIG 4. Arsenal & United are front-runners for the championship. judging on their performance with the other 3 teams.

i support liverpool.. after another defeat to united last night. 9 points clear and it be hard to keep up. getting maximum and not dropping points against less-fancied teams is the way to keep up with the title-race.

chelsea? no comment...

at 1am this morn.. where most people having wet sort of dreams... there's group of people still awake.....

the guy wearing red.. hes wearing a fake United jersey... and man was he disgusting by digging his toes.. yucks!

TAK GIU LAND reaches its 90th entry as of now..... there's more to come..... definetly... :D

United reign at Anfield again

At least kenna something, Away 2.57 and 0-1 7.50.

Liverpool gave Manchester Utd an early Christmas present, 3 precious points. Its Liverpool's 2nd premiership lost in an row and they are now 9 pts behind the Champion.

Got a chance to interview Tevez, the goal scorer at the changing room after the match. Below is the content of the interview...

Me: Tevez, how's ur feeling now?

Tevez: Its great to win away at Anfield. They were a great side, but lack of luck.

M: Do you think Utd played badly and win?

T: Well, I think we 've done pretty well. I was suprised that nobody was around me when Rooney's shot was coming towards me and I simply had to tapped the ball into the net.

M: Any last word from you?

T: Firstly, I would like to thank my boss, Alex for giving me a chance to play, his selection of players and his tactic were excellent, which made him the longest serving manger in the league.

Next, I would like to thank Rooney and Giggsy. Giggs fooled everyone, his short pass to Rooney at the edge of the box gave Rooney time to shoot. His shot landed right infront of me.

I also want to thank the defenders especially Rio Ferdinand for keeping Liverpool at bay. Van der Sar made few schoolboy errors and lucky, the lads cleared those dangerous balls.

Er, also want to thanks those supporters, tuning to Football Channel to catch the match when Star Awards is still on going on Ch 8. Glad that they had chosen to see stars at Anfield rather than those at caldecott Hill.

Lastly, thank my Father, Mother and everyone..

M: Thank u Tevez.
My Man of the match is Rio Ferdinand. Rooney almost buried Liverpool, his shot missed the target when 1 on 1 with Reina.

Pete, reporting live at Anfield for Tak Giu Land. Good nite.

Glory, Glory Man United....

Over at Emirates Stadium, 10 yellow cards were flashed to players. The game was full of tackles, dirty play and play acting..

Arsenal still league leaders with 40 pts, Man Utd 39 pts.

Yawn....

EPL BERN's selected picks;

manchester city v bolton wanderers
Eriksson will be hoping to welcome back midfield-general Elano to the starting eleven, and while one player, Dietmar Hamann, returns from suspension, Stephen Ireland misses out as he begins his three-match ban following his dismissal during City’s game against Tottenham.

Megson is likely to name an unchanged side from the one which beat Wigan last weekend with no injuries or suspensions to worry about, and as such Andy O’Brien, Nicky Hunt and Danny Guthrie will all retain their places in the team.

1/2 goals.
LS: 2-1/DRAW.

portsmouth v tottenham hotspurs
Lauren (hamstring), Martin Crainie (broken leg), Linvoy Primus (knee) and Sean Davis (hamstring) are all on the injured list though Lauren could be in contention again by Saturday. Kanu is getting near match fitness and could be in line for the starting XI.

Gareth Bale is being rushed back to fitness but still won't be ready for this one, and while Rocha is getting close to full fitness he won't make the line up for this either. Ledley King (knee), Anthony Gardner (ankle), and Benoit Assou-Ekotto (knee) are all out, while Robbie Keane is suspended for the 2nd of 3 matches.

DRAW.

liverpool v manchester united
Xabi Alonso could return to the squad after missing two months with a broken metatarsal. Right Back Steve Finnan is doubtful with a calf strain, while Centre half Daniel Agger (foot) is still missing.

Experienced United legends Gary Neville (calf) and Paul Scholes (knee), as well as Park Ji-Sung (knee) all miss out for United, but after the money spent by Ferguson in the summer, his squad should be able to cope without them.

home win.

hey people.. once again... another dose of football action awaits wif UEFA, SERIE A and BARCLAYS PREMIER LEAGUE fixtures.

fellow TAK GIU founder, Pete.. think last wkend dio burnt bcos of URAWA REDS incompetent to land another J-League title.... losing to i don't which team. he sms me and luan gan... he suspect whether the match was fixed not... lol...

i also T.L lost on Spurs on sunday... but make up for it wif MAN U HOT on the heels towards BPL leaders Arsenal, who is schedule to play TOON ARMY tonight. news later on..

Liverpool vs MAN United at 9.30pm & CHELSEA travel to Emirates to face ARSENAL at midnight on 16th Dec. as part of the KOP... of course i root on for the REDS la.. no need to say one... im confident wif Torres in RED HOT form now... i DO NOT believe Liverpool wld lose ground. we shall see... lol....

NEWCASTLE UNITED vs ARSENAL
st james park, Newcastle.

Newcastle will be without defenders Abdoulaye Faye (calf) and Stephen Carr (hamstring) for the game against Premier League leaders Arsenal.

Centre-back Steven Taylor (back) could return, but defender Claudio Cacapa and striker Michael Owen are both out.

Midfielder Mathieu Flamini has joined Arsenal's growing injury list, which also includes Alex Hleb, Cesc Fabregas and Abou Diaby.

Striker Robin van Persie is working on his match fitness after a knee problem.

DRAW
LS: H-A

ROMA vs CAGLIARI
Stadio Olimpico, Roma

After spending the entire match against Udinese on the bench, the Giallorossi’s talismanic captain Francesco Totti should return to the starting line-up this week. What Spalletti decides to do with the in-form Vucinic is another story, however it won’t be easy. Perrotta and Aquilani are still injured; however both are nearing a comeback, whilst De Rossi is suspended for this match.

Having not won a league match for well over a month, the news on the injury front is a little more positive for the Sardinian club. Parola is suspended for this match, whilst Shala and number one goalkeeper Fortin will not be fit in time. Pisano has been out injured for some time now, and will continue to sit on the sidelines for another few months.

This shouldn’t make much of a difference however; as Roma’s attacking strength should be far too strong for a defence consisting of Ferri, Lopez, Bianco and Agostini.

Ro scored twice for Red Devils

Sigh, Uwara let the championship slipped through their fingers....wonder if had been rigged..

No JP for the weekend. :(

Back to EPL, this morning, Rolando scored twice over Fulham to fire Man United back to second place. Currently only Arsenal (1) and Liverpool (4) have a game in hand, for the standing in the top 4.

Cant wait for 16 Dec to come..

D-Day for J League

Asian Champion, Uwara Reds has to wait till the last day of the season to see if they can retain the J League championship. They leaded Kashima by a point. They draw with Shimizu S Pulse and then lost to Kashima Antlers in the last two matches. Its difficuit to place a wager now because, even if they will to lost to FC Yokohama and Kashima draw with Shimizu S Pulse, they will still be champ. So this week, I still will take them to beat FC Yokohama to win title. Oh btw, they lost 2-0 to Ehime FC, a div 2 team on 28 Nov in Emperor Cup.

Derby manager Billy Davies has left the Premier League strugglers after talks with chairman Adam Pearson. The club are two points adrift at the foot of the table following a 2-0 defeat by Chelsea on Saturday.

Davies, who has become the fifth managerial casualty in the Premier League so far this season, put a question mark over his future back in May after steering Derby to promotion.

But he signed a contract extension until June 2010 after talks with the board and ex-chairman Peter Gadsby, although that was another controversial episode in his tenure at the club.

Derby now play fellow relegation battlers Sunderland on Saturday before facing Manchester United.

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has again risked the wrath of the club's American owners by openly questioning their transfer policy.

The rift between Benitez and Liverpool's American owners has led to speculation in a number of newspapers that the Spaniard's job is under threat, with Jose Mourinho in line to replace him.

His position could be further weakened if Liverpool fail to beat Porto on Wednesday - a result which would see them almost certainly eliminated from the Champions League.

After reading TNP for 17 years, i will still buy TNP for news, sports news.. (criticise the Sports Desk sometimes cos I can do better). It doesn’t matter if England will to qualify or not, because they are over-rated at times.

They are well support in Singapore and Malaysia because they are too commercialised. Prices for tv rights shoots up fast, asian bookmakers depends on they for income. Ten of thousands exchanged hands during weekends.

Euro is only for “Best of European Teams”, so if England doesnt make it, there’s still Germany, France, Holland… etc to fight it out for European Best.

I hope TNP will feature all 16 teams fighting out for the European Crown. Respective leagues and players to watch.

P.S. any vacancy at sports desk?

Euro 2008

After months of playing qualifying matches, 7 group winners and runners-up will be making their trip to join co-host Austria and Switzerland for Euro2008 tournament.

Poland, Portugal, Italy, France, Greece, Turkey, Czech Republic, Germany, Croatia, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Romania and the Netherlands.

England coundn't even draw Croatia at Wembley, where they needed only a point even if Russia beat Andorra.

Steve McClaren's tactics were all wrong even before kickoff. Playing defensive formation on Home ground and playing a meaningless friendly days before this game. None of his first team strikers were available, Owen injured in friendly and Rooney injured. Carson was not as calm as James and Gerard CANNOT PLAY TOGETHER with Lampard.

Move on, watch EPL better...

YAWN...

Newcastle v Liverpool
Arsenal v Wigan
Birmingham v Portsmouth
Bolton v Man Utd
Everton v Sunderland
Man City v Reading City
Middlesbrough v Aston Villa
Derby v Chelsea

My early picks are Newcastle and Derby. Liverpool better concentrate on Champs league.

S-Day.

one of the world's best league is not going to Austria & Switzerland next summer. pure sad.... ive made a small bet with my ex-squeeze.. she took Croatia to win w/o any hesitation.. even when i told her the game is played in London. she didn't change her mind...

yes, i lost $$ on the game but its not the money issue... with home support and a point advantage over their nearest rivals, Russia. what exactly went wrong after conceding 2 goals in a space of 14mins? goodness me!

morale at a all-time low now. one can blame the ref. decision, the injuries... blah blah blah.... but for a nation who claimed to have invented the game had absolutely no excuse when they were handed a lifeline by Israel last Sat.

this is England. a football league full of millionaire players. heads will roll.. some will take the blame. the foreign nationals quota debate. for me, a game is a game. the Three Lions have let themselves down.

2-3 (0-2)

D-Day for England.

ok... tml morn 4am (London tonight), England holds the advantage of making it to Euro 2008 together with qualified Croatia. but this game serves as a decider as who wld be group winners. England needs to win by 2 goals or more to win the group. Russia wld definetly take advantage of any slip-up by scoring more goals as expected away to Andorra.

on Saturday, England got a reprieve. Can they exploit it?

Manager Steve McClaren has so far refused to drop hints about his team selection, but he presumably knows whether David Beckham will keep his place, and if Paul Robinson will replace Scott Carson in goal. Beckham started against Austria in last Friday's friendly, but could be replaced by Shaun Wright-Phillips.

John Terry, Wayne Rooney and Michael Owen will sit out this game through injury, Rio Ferdinand is suspended.

Visiting striker Mladen Petric is Croatian boss Bilic's only doubt after reporting ill on Monday.

BERN's verdict;

advantage is now handed back to the Englishmen after Israel last-gasp win against the Russians on saturday. alot of mind games, team news been going on the last 3-4 days. as always in any top-of-table clash, the home team has the slight advantage of winning the game. im banging the home support as the 12th player and hopefully for a 2 goal cushion for England to win the group. a England win would be enough. a draw wld still put England at a disadvantage but depending on how big the score for Andorra-Russia game which wld be played on the same night.

Had been busy during the past week and didnt realised that I JP so many selections. The 3 - 2 pick was definitely a LONG-SHOT pick!!! Better start picking "Selections" for this week's games, while the iron is still hot.

S-League

There's saying going around that tonight's game will end in draw game. So that ONLY the last game will be the title dicider. Then Silly pool will make more money also.. :)

After watching LIVE at Bishan stadium with Holy, Platoons of police cadats and cd boys, witnessing Home Utd being outplayed in 1st half, creating the impression that Tampines were favourite to win, they gave everything in 2nd half and upset many punters. Of cos, the bookmakers were happy cos Tampines lost and they won money. So my pick for tonight is Draw game. Not to expect too much actions as both SAF FC and Home United will be without their international players.

Newcastle midfielder Joey Barton has apologised for his dangerous tackle on Sunderland's Dickson Etuhu during Saturday's derby match.

The Football Association will not take any action against Barton after he went in with his studs high, but no foul was awarded by referee Martin Atkinson.

"There was no malice in it, nor was it premeditated, if I caused him any injury then I apologise," said Barton.

The two players clashed during the 1-1 draw at the Stadium of Light.

Yossi Benayoun will miss Israel's Euro 2008 qualifier with Russia on 17 November, dealing England's hopes of reaching the finals a major blow.

England need Israel to at least draw in Tel Aviv if they are to stand a chance of finishing second in Group E and Benayoun is the Israelis' key player.

The Israel captain was injured in Liverpool's 2-0 win over Fulham.

And the midfielder has been ruled out for three weeks after a scan on Sunday revealed an adductor tear.

If England fail to qualify for the finals it will be the first time they have missed out on a major tournament since the 1994 World Cup.

Reading manager Steve Coppell says quotas on English players in Premier League teams are necessary in order to improve the national side.

He believes the structure of English football is "a recipe for non-success at international level".

Coppell blamed a lack of clear leadership and too many conflicting interests for England's current woes and called on the Premier League to take the lead in improving the situation.

Nigeria strikers Nwankwo Kanu and John Utaka have been ruled out of their country's friendly against Australia in London.

Manager Harry Redknapp insists the duo will remain with the club for treatment after suffering injuries on Sunday.

"Kanu has got a hamstring and Utaka has got a groin strain, so they won't go away this week," Redknapp said.

"They will stay here for the next two weeks and have treatment.

"They are supposed to be playing for Nigeria but there is no chance of them leaving here now.

"They are here and hopefully will have a chance of being fit for our next game."

The two players suffered the injuries while playing in Portsmouth's goalless draw with Manchester City.

Chelsea's Portuguese defender Ricardo Carvalho could be out for up to eight weeks after injuring his back in Sunday's 1-1 home draw with Everton.

If confirmed, it will be another blow for Chelsea who already have Petr Cech, John Terry and Paulo Ferreira injured.

One grain of consolation is England left-back Ashley Cole's return to fitness after an ankle problem.

After Sunday's draw at Stamford Bridge, which leaves Chelsea five points behind Premier League leaders Manchester United, Grant conceded: "We have too many injuries.

UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE Matchday 4 Group E-H, BERN's selected picks;

Manchester United - Dynamo Kiev

Ferguson had ear-marked this game for club captain Gary Neville’s comeback, but the defender’s setback has now ruled him out, making him the manager's only fresh injury concern.

Striker Louis Saha could come into contention, while midfielder Owen Hargreaves is primed to make his European debut for United.

The visitors will have to contend with the absence of Maksim Shatskikh and Valentin Belkevich. However the return of fit-again Sergei Rebrov and the maturity of blossoming defender Oleh Dopilka gives Kiev a much-needed boost.

2-0/3-0/4-1 (6.20/5.50/11.00)
LS: AOS (10.00)

FC Barcelona - Rangers

Rijkaard's main doubt is over the fitness over Gianluca Zambrotta. If the Italian does not make it then Carles Puyol could move across to the right of the defence with Lilian Thuram or Rafa Márquez coming into the centre. Alternatively, Oleguer could slot straight in leave Puyol in the middle. Touré Yaya, Xavi and Andrés Iniesta will be the three midfielders, while Leo Messi, Ronaldinho and Thierry Henry will up front.

Kevin Thomson is suspended, but otherwise Smith has a full squad to choose from. Brahim Hemdani, Jean-Claude Darcheville and Charlie Adam are all available after returning to action recently so it is down to the manager to see how many changes he wants to make. Smith is set to rotate his players, but not change the team's system from the first match.

2-0 (5.80)
LS: DRAW (5.15)

Inter Milan - CSKA Moscow

Coach Roberto Mancini will be worried about the series of injuries that have hit the team recently particularly in midfield, Luis Figo being the last casualty as he suffered a fracture during the ‘Derby d’Italia’ after a clash with Pavel Nedved. Patrick Vieira is out until next year, while Dejan Stankovic recently suffered a calf injury that will keep him out for about a month.

On a more positive note, defender Marco Materazzi is about to make his return after the bad injury he sustained during a summer friendly with the Azzurri.

Russian visitors to the San Siro is boosted by
the return of Igor Akinfeev, Aleksei Berezutski and Vágner Love, who could partner Jô up front. Akinfeev and Berezutski were both in action on Saturday as CSKA beat FC Kuban Krasnodar 1-0 to move up to third in the Russian standings.

+1.5 (1.85)

Slavia Prague-Arsenal

Ladislav Volešák will have to serve a one-match suspension, having picked up yellow cards in each of Slavia's first three games.

Four Slavia players have appeared in all seven of the club's Champions League games so far this season: Martin Vaniak, Marek Suchý, Matej Krajcík and Stanislav Vlcek.

But striker Vlcek faces at least two weeks out through injury, while Petr Janda underwent knee surgery last Wednesday and will be sidelined until after the winter break.

Cesc Fabregas, Kolo Toure, Tomas Rosicky and Alexander Hleb have all stayed in London. Theo Walcott and Eduardo are vying to start alongside Emmanuel Adebayor in attack.

+1.5 (1.53)
LS: 0-1 (6.50)

S-League

Went to Bishan Stadium to catch the match between Home Utd and Tampines Rovers in action with Holy. I was suprised to see the stadium was almost filled up. There were PLATOONS of police recuit Cadets and CD recuits and NSF. Nowadays so welfare, no night training still got nights off to watch s-league..

Tampines dominates the first half, all 3 depts played as a team but couldn't turn their possession into chances. Home Utd was just as bored as Liverpool. 2 attackers attacking, the rest of the midfielders walking at their own pace to "assist" their strikers. It was a 1 sided affair in the 1st half as Tampines outplayed Home. Home was putting up a show.

Holy kept repeating that Home was favourite even though Tampines was controlling the game. I told Holy that Tampines played good in 1st half, 2nd half, Home will win. True enough, Home scored 2 goals to take 2nd spot and 3 Horse race continues.

Now I know what is call KELONG. And the big winners is still Singapore pools.

Oh I saw Tay Tze Siong, the Shin Ming Man, didnt have a chance to chat with him, watch this space next time when I'll grab him for an interview. :)

EPL news 30th Oct.

Manchester United have suffered a huge blow with the news that Paul Scholes will be out for three months.

The 32-year-old midfielder has been diagnosed with damaged knee ligaments and will have an operation on Thursday.

Scholes picked up the injury in training ahead of the Champions League win over Dynamo Kiev last week.

The former England midfielder will miss at least 13 Premier League games, including Saturday's visit to Arsenal and the trip to Liverpool on 16 December.

He should return in time for the Champions League knockout stage at the end of February.

Spurs have appointed their former player Gus Poyet as first-team coach under new boss Juande Ramos.

Poyet arrives from League One side Leeds United, where he was assistant to Dennis Wise, after a compensation package was agreed over the weekend.

The 39-year-old joins the club as one of two first-team coaches, alongside Marcos Alvarez, who worked with Ramos at former club Sevilla.

Poyet played at White Hart Lane for three seasons between 2001 and 2004.

New chairman Adam Pearson has promised to hand Derby boss Billy Davies a cash injection to keep the Premier League's bottom-placed team in the top flight.

The former Hull chief will run the club on a day-to-day basis in place of out-going chairman Peter Gadsby.

He said: "The board and I will continue to offer Billy full support in our quest to remain in the Premier League.

"We will be exploring all possible options available to ensure a successful transfer window in January."

Davies' side are on a miserable run of one win in 11 league matches, but Pearson believes the former Preston boss is still the right man to lead to club out of trouble.

He added: "We firmly believe we have the manager and backroom team in place to continue the remarkable progress achieved on the pitch by Billy and his squad over the last 18 months."

Liverpool striker Fernando Torres has been ruled out for three weeks with an adductor injury, the club has said.

Midfielder Xabi Alonso is also facing a spell on the sidelines after X-rays revealed he had fractured the fourth metatarsal in his left foot.

Both players were injured during Sunday's 1-1 draw against Arsenal, along with team-mate Javier Mascherano.

However, the Argentine midfielder has suffered only extensive bruising and no bone injury, scans have revealed.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has declared for the first time his side are ready to mount a serious title challenge after Sunday's 1-1 draw at Liverpool.

Cesc Fabregas' late equaliser earned a point, but Wenger believes the resilience Arsenal showed proves they are genuine Premier League contenders.

He said: "We have come out of our first big test this season stronger. We played without the handbrake on.

"We have the talent to fight up there for the championship."

Wenger added that the quality his side showed against Liverpool sets them up perfectly for their clash with closest rivals Manchester United at The Emirates next Saturday.

"We will go into the Manchester United as another big test, but after this performance we will be facing United much stronger."

EPL updates up til 26th Oct.

Tottenham Hotspur confirmed the sacking of manager Martin Jol following the club's Uefa Cup defeat by Getafe. Assistant Chris Hughton was also removed.

Clive Allen takes charge for Sunday's game with Blackburn while Sevilla coach Juande Ramos has reportedly agreed to take over at the start of next season.

Former Spurs player Allen is the club's development coach and he will be helped to prepare for the game by youth team manager Alex Inglethorpe.

Jol took charge of Spurs in November 2004, replacing the unpopular Frenchman Jacques Santini, and under him the club twice qualified for the Uefa Cup.

Having recruited the likes of Darren Bent, who cost £16.5m, Gareth Bale and French defender Younes Kaboul during the summer, Tottenham had high hopes of challenging for a Champions League place.

But Spurs suffered a disastrous start, recording just one victory - the 4-0 win over Derby in August - in 10 league games and since the reported meeting with Ramos, Jol has faced constant questioning over his future.

Jol's agent is currently in Brazil and was unavailable for comment late on Thursday as regards the terms of the Dutchman's severance package.

Bolton Wanderers have appointed Gary Megson as their new manager.

The former Leicester boss has signed a two-and-a-half year contract and will be in charge for Sunday's Premier League game against Aston Villa.

Bolton chairman Phil Gartside said: "Gary has demonstrated he has the right temperament for a battle, which this season is undoubtedly going to be."

Megson succeeds Sammy Lee and inherits a side bottom of the table with just five points from their first 10 games.

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has received the backing of Reds co-owner Tom Hicks following their 2-1 Champions League defeat at Besiktas.

Liverpool are bottom of their group and will probably need to win their last three games to progress any further.

"We back Rafa - he's the right manager," said Hicks.

"Rafa's rotation has been his policy for three years - his ability to coach and manage in the Champions League should be unquestioned."

Liverpool are still unbeaten in the Premier League, but they have fallen six points behind the leaders Arsenal after drawing their last two home games.

Benitez's side host the Gunners on Sunday and Hicks remains upbeat.

"We're just not playing as good as we can right now. Obviously, Fernando Torres is injured, but hopefully he can play at the weekend,"

AFC Champions League semi final

The match between Uwara Reds (J-league champ) and Seongnam Chunma (K-league champ) ended in a 2 - 2 draw last night.

Reds, who had 2 away goals advantage from the first leg, scored the first goal thru Washington. Choi Sung-kuk and Kim Dong-hun put the visitors ahead after the break. 3 - 4, Reds were on their way out when Makoto Hasebe equalised for the host.

The match then goes into extra time. Both teams tried to outplay each other but with the score still tied at 4 - 4 after extra time, penalties was the last option.

Tadaaki Hirakawa then scored Reds final penalty to take the Reds into the final. The first Japanese club to be in the AFC Champions League.

The Reds will face Iranian side Sepahan in a 2 legged final on 7 and 14 Nov.

October 19, 2007

EPL updates.

Didier Drogba is unhappy at Chelsea and wants to leave the club, according to France Football magazine.

In an interview due to be published on Friday, the striker, 29, says morale has plummeted since Jose Mourinho left.

"I want to leave Chelsea. Something is broken with Chelsea," Drogba said. "The damage is big in the dressing room."

He signed his new deal last November but told the BBC the following month that he had considered leaving the previous summer in the wake of Chelsea's second successive league title.

In the interview, Drogba is quoted as saying he wanted an even earlier exit and will not change his mind even if the club make high-profile signings next summer.

"Nothing can stop me from leaving now," he said.

Drogba says Barcelona, Real Madrid, AC Milan or Inter Milan would be his preferred destination.

"Since the day I arrived, I wanted to leave Chelsea and then again every summer," he said.

"I know that Ronaldinho and Kaka are linked to come next season but even that won't change my mind."

Arsenal striker Robin van Persie will be out for a month after injuring his knee playing for Holland on Wednesday.

The 24-year-old, who had scored four goals in his last three games for the Gunners, limped off against Slovenia.

in addition defender Philippe Senderos faces two weeks on the sidelines after picking up a back injury playing in Switzerland's midweek friendly against the USA.

But defender William Gallas, goalkeeper Jens Lehmann and midfielder Tomas Rosicky have been declared fit for Saturday's home Premier League match against Bolton.

Van Persie will miss a number of key fixtures as the Champions League restarts next week and Arsenal face Liverpool and Manchester United back to back after the Bolton match.

Birmingham City have rejected an approach from Bolton for their manager Steve Bruce, BBC Sport understands.

But Bruce is waiting for reassurances about his own future at St Andrews from prospective owner Carson Yeung before committing himself to the Blues.

Wanderers coach Archie Knox has been put in charge of first-team affairs at the Reebok Stadium following Sammy Lee's departure on Wednesday after only six months in charge of the club.

But Bruce, who has 18 months left on his contract, has already said he fears his six-year reign as Blues boss may be coming to an end.

the former Manchester United, Rangers and Everton assistant manager will be in charge "until further notice", said a statement on the club's website.

Knox will be aided by coaches Ricky Sbragia and Jimmy Phillips as they prepare to face Arsenal on Saturday.

Lee was promoted from assistant manager in April when boss Sam Allardyce - who has since joined Newcastle - left the club.

Gary Megson, Graeme Souness and John Collins have also been linked to the club.

Tottenham vice-chairman Paul Kemsley has resigned from the board with immediate effect.

The announcement was made to the Stock Exchange as Spurs also revealed £28m profits for the last financial year.

Kemsley was said to be closely involved in the club's attempts to bring Seville coach Juande Ramos to White Hart Lane.

He was part of a delegation which travelled to Spain to speak to Ramos but has now left the club to focus on business interests in the US.

Last year's Uefa Cup campaign, when Martin Jol's side reached the quarter-final stage, and successive fifth-placed Premier League finishes, led to the club posting a turnover of £103.1m for the year ending 30 June 2007, up £29m on the 2006 figures.

Operating profit before football trading and depreciation increased from £4.6m to £32m while operating profit before training totalled £29.7m from £2.4m for the previous year.

England goalkeeper Paul Robinson has been ruled out of Tottenham's match at Newcastle on Monday by a calf strain.

The 28-year-old picked up the injury in his England's 2-1 defeat against Russia in Moscow on Wednesday.

Robinson was criticised for his part in Roman Pavluchenko's winner, which left England on the brink of failing to qualify for Euro 2008.

Radek Cerny is set to deputise at St James' Park, because England Under-21 keeper Ben Alnwick is on loan at Luton.

Jol did not indicate how long Robinson is likely to be absent for.

Man U on song. I nearly nicked Villa.

MAN UNITED vs WIGAN
4-0 (0-0)

watching the old trafford game at 848 Arena wif a near full-house of mostly Red Devils fans. as a Liverpool supporter, its pretty intimitating sitting among these fans... one indian fella i guess had a drop too much keep disturbing those around that how good this player that player is... lol... funny clown who brought whole house down each time United scored.

i placed a $10 bet on Man U winning 2-0. even a idiot wld know for United to beat the 1/2 goal handicap is no problem but payout is jus a mere $6 for every $10 placed. and so I thot for the first 45mins, Wigan was not buckled under pressure as United threatened on couple occasions, though they might scared themselves as a Tevez crossed deflected a Wigan defender only for Kirkland to parry away at the far post, Ronaldo picked up the ball, turn a defender and going down... I WOULD SAY CLUMSY.... referee was metres away and i would say he was right to waved away any penalty appeals and gesture to the Portugese winger to fucking stand up instead. lol....

i have a gut feel United would come out firing on all fronts in the second-half... i was right.. Anderson and Danny Simpson, both involved in that infamous 0-2 defeat by Coventry in the Carling Cup... turn on the style by providing assists for Tevez opening goal and Rooney 1st and United 4th.

it could hav been more than 4-0 if not for Ronaldo selfish attempt in getting a hat-trick when Rooney was unmarked in the centre and Nani poor pass straight to a Wigan defender with Ronaldo onside.

with Saha injured, both Vidic and O'Shea coming off for suspected double-vision and a muscle pull. no one wld hav expected United to fired up against the odds.

man, i can't imagine if the gaffer hav a full strength.
