EPL news 30th Oct.

Manchester United have suffered a huge blow with the news that Paul Scholes will be out for three months.

The 32-year-old midfielder has been diagnosed with damaged knee ligaments and will have an operation on Thursday.

Scholes picked up the injury in training ahead of the Champions League win over Dynamo Kiev last week.

The former England midfielder will miss at least 13 Premier League games, including Saturday's visit to Arsenal and the trip to Liverpool on 16 December.

He should return in time for the Champions League knockout stage at the end of February.

Spurs have appointed their former player Gus Poyet as first-team coach under new boss Juande Ramos.

Poyet arrives from League One side Leeds United, where he was assistant to Dennis Wise, after a compensation package was agreed over the weekend.

The 39-year-old joins the club as one of two first-team coaches, alongside Marcos Alvarez, who worked with Ramos at former club Sevilla.

Poyet played at White Hart Lane for three seasons between 2001 and 2004.

New chairman Adam Pearson has promised to hand Derby boss Billy Davies a cash injection to keep the Premier League's bottom-placed team in the top flight.

The former Hull chief will run the club on a day-to-day basis in place of out-going chairman Peter Gadsby.

He said: "The board and I will continue to offer Billy full support in our quest to remain in the Premier League.

"We will be exploring all possible options available to ensure a successful transfer window in January."

Davies' side are on a miserable run of one win in 11 league matches, but Pearson believes the former Preston boss is still the right man to lead to club out of trouble.

He added: "We firmly believe we have the manager and backroom team in place to continue the remarkable progress achieved on the pitch by Billy and his squad over the last 18 months."

Liverpool striker Fernando Torres has been ruled out for three weeks with an adductor injury, the club has said.

Midfielder Xabi Alonso is also facing a spell on the sidelines after X-rays revealed he had fractured the fourth metatarsal in his left foot.

Both players were injured during Sunday's 1-1 draw against Arsenal, along with team-mate Javier Mascherano.

However, the Argentine midfielder has suffered only extensive bruising and no bone injury, scans have revealed.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has declared for the first time his side are ready to mount a serious title challenge after Sunday's 1-1 draw at Liverpool.

Cesc Fabregas' late equaliser earned a point, but Wenger believes the resilience Arsenal showed proves they are genuine Premier League contenders.

He said: "We have come out of our first big test this season stronger. We played without the handbrake on.

"We have the talent to fight up there for the championship."

Wenger added that the quality his side showed against Liverpool sets them up perfectly for their clash with closest rivals Manchester United at The Emirates next Saturday.

"We will go into the Manchester United as another big test, but after this performance we will be facing United much stronger."

EPL updates up til 26th Oct.

Tottenham Hotspur confirmed the sacking of manager Martin Jol following the club's Uefa Cup defeat by Getafe. Assistant Chris Hughton was also removed.

Clive Allen takes charge for Sunday's game with Blackburn while Sevilla coach Juande Ramos has reportedly agreed to take over at the start of next season.

Former Spurs player Allen is the club's development coach and he will be helped to prepare for the game by youth team manager Alex Inglethorpe.

Jol took charge of Spurs in November 2004, replacing the unpopular Frenchman Jacques Santini, and under him the club twice qualified for the Uefa Cup.

Having recruited the likes of Darren Bent, who cost £16.5m, Gareth Bale and French defender Younes Kaboul during the summer, Tottenham had high hopes of challenging for a Champions League place.

But Spurs suffered a disastrous start, recording just one victory - the 4-0 win over Derby in August - in 10 league games and since the reported meeting with Ramos, Jol has faced constant questioning over his future.

Jol's agent is currently in Brazil and was unavailable for comment late on Thursday as regards the terms of the Dutchman's severance package.

Bolton Wanderers have appointed Gary Megson as their new manager.

The former Leicester boss has signed a two-and-a-half year contract and will be in charge for Sunday's Premier League game against Aston Villa.

Bolton chairman Phil Gartside said: "Gary has demonstrated he has the right temperament for a battle, which this season is undoubtedly going to be."

Megson succeeds Sammy Lee and inherits a side bottom of the table with just five points from their first 10 games.

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has received the backing of Reds co-owner Tom Hicks following their 2-1 Champions League defeat at Besiktas.

Liverpool are bottom of their group and will probably need to win their last three games to progress any further.

"We back Rafa - he's the right manager," said Hicks.

"Rafa's rotation has been his policy for three years - his ability to coach and manage in the Champions League should be unquestioned."

Liverpool are still unbeaten in the Premier League, but they have fallen six points behind the leaders Arsenal after drawing their last two home games.

Benitez's side host the Gunners on Sunday and Hicks remains upbeat.

"We're just not playing as good as we can right now. Obviously, Fernando Torres is injured, but hopefully he can play at the weekend,"

AFC Champions League semi final

The match between Uwara Reds (J-league champ) and Seongnam Chunma (K-league champ) ended in a 2 - 2 draw last night.

Reds, who had 2 away goals advantage from the first leg, scored the first goal thru Washington. Choi Sung-kuk and Kim Dong-hun put the visitors ahead after the break. 3 - 4, Reds were on their way out when Makoto Hasebe equalised for the host.

The match then goes into extra time. Both teams tried to outplay each other but with the score still tied at 4 - 4 after extra time, penalties was the last option.

Tadaaki Hirakawa then scored Reds final penalty to take the Reds into the final. The first Japanese club to be in the AFC Champions League.

The Reds will face Iranian side Sepahan in a 2 legged final on 7 and 14 Nov.

October 19, 2007

EPL updates.

Didier Drogba is unhappy at Chelsea and wants to leave the club, according to France Football magazine.

In an interview due to be published on Friday, the striker, 29, says morale has plummeted since Jose Mourinho left.

"I want to leave Chelsea. Something is broken with Chelsea," Drogba said. "The damage is big in the dressing room."

He signed his new deal last November but told the BBC the following month that he had considered leaving the previous summer in the wake of Chelsea's second successive league title.

In the interview, Drogba is quoted as saying he wanted an even earlier exit and will not change his mind even if the club make high-profile signings next summer.

"Nothing can stop me from leaving now," he said.

Drogba says Barcelona, Real Madrid, AC Milan or Inter Milan would be his preferred destination.

"Since the day I arrived, I wanted to leave Chelsea and then again every summer," he said.

"I know that Ronaldinho and Kaka are linked to come next season but even that won't change my mind."

Arsenal striker Robin van Persie will be out for a month after injuring his knee playing for Holland on Wednesday.

The 24-year-old, who had scored four goals in his last three games for the Gunners, limped off against Slovenia.

in addition defender Philippe Senderos faces two weeks on the sidelines after picking up a back injury playing in Switzerland's midweek friendly against the USA.

But defender William Gallas, goalkeeper Jens Lehmann and midfielder Tomas Rosicky have been declared fit for Saturday's home Premier League match against Bolton.

Van Persie will miss a number of key fixtures as the Champions League restarts next week and Arsenal face Liverpool and Manchester United back to back after the Bolton match.

Birmingham City have rejected an approach from Bolton for their manager Steve Bruce, BBC Sport understands.

But Bruce is waiting for reassurances about his own future at St Andrews from prospective owner Carson Yeung before committing himself to the Blues.

Wanderers coach Archie Knox has been put in charge of first-team affairs at the Reebok Stadium following Sammy Lee's departure on Wednesday after only six months in charge of the club.

But Bruce, who has 18 months left on his contract, has already said he fears his six-year reign as Blues boss may be coming to an end.

the former Manchester United, Rangers and Everton assistant manager will be in charge "until further notice", said a statement on the club's website.

Knox will be aided by coaches Ricky Sbragia and Jimmy Phillips as they prepare to face Arsenal on Saturday.

Lee was promoted from assistant manager in April when boss Sam Allardyce - who has since joined Newcastle - left the club.

Gary Megson, Graeme Souness and John Collins have also been linked to the club.

Tottenham vice-chairman Paul Kemsley has resigned from the board with immediate effect.

The announcement was made to the Stock Exchange as Spurs also revealed £28m profits for the last financial year.

Kemsley was said to be closely involved in the club's attempts to bring Seville coach Juande Ramos to White Hart Lane.

He was part of a delegation which travelled to Spain to speak to Ramos but has now left the club to focus on business interests in the US.

Last year's Uefa Cup campaign, when Martin Jol's side reached the quarter-final stage, and successive fifth-placed Premier League finishes, led to the club posting a turnover of £103.1m for the year ending 30 June 2007, up £29m on the 2006 figures.

Operating profit before football trading and depreciation increased from £4.6m to £32m while operating profit before training totalled £29.7m from £2.4m for the previous year.

England goalkeeper Paul Robinson has been ruled out of Tottenham's match at Newcastle on Monday by a calf strain.

The 28-year-old picked up the injury in his England's 2-1 defeat against Russia in Moscow on Wednesday.

Robinson was criticised for his part in Roman Pavluchenko's winner, which left England on the brink of failing to qualify for Euro 2008.

Radek Cerny is set to deputise at St James' Park, because England Under-21 keeper Ben Alnwick is on loan at Luton.

Jol did not indicate how long Robinson is likely to be absent for.

Man U on song. I nearly nicked Villa.

MAN UNITED vs WIGAN
4-0 (0-0)

watching the old trafford game at 848 Arena wif a near full-house of mostly Red Devils fans. as a Liverpool supporter, its pretty intimitating sitting among these fans... one indian fella i guess had a drop too much keep disturbing those around that how good this player that player is... lol... funny clown who brought whole house down each time United scored.

i placed a $10 bet on Man U winning 2-0. even a idiot wld know for United to beat the 1/2 goal handicap is no problem but payout is jus a mere $6 for every $10 placed. and so I thot for the first 45mins, Wigan was not buckled under pressure as United threatened on couple occasions, though they might scared themselves as a Tevez crossed deflected a Wigan defender only for Kirkland to parry away at the far post, Ronaldo picked up the ball, turn a defender and going down... I WOULD SAY CLUMSY.... referee was metres away and i would say he was right to waved away any penalty appeals and gesture to the Portugese winger to fucking stand up instead. lol....

i have a gut feel United would come out firing on all fronts in the second-half... i was right.. Anderson and Danny Simpson, both involved in that infamous 0-2 defeat by Coventry in the Carling Cup... turn on the style by providing assists for Tevez opening goal and Rooney 1st and United 4th.

it could hav been more than 4-0 if not for Ronaldo selfish attempt in getting a hat-trick when Rooney was unmarked in the centre and Nani poor pass straight to a Wigan defender with Ronaldo onside.

with Saha injured, both Vidic and O'Shea coming off for suspected double-vision and a muscle pull. no one wld hav expected United to fired up against the odds.

man, i can't imagine if the gaffer hav a full strength.

CHELSEA V FULHAM
0-0
my thoughts on taking Fulham to beat e 2 goal handicap, but decide to give Chelsea a chance bcos most people took the Blues to win big. haha... how disappointing it was... $30m pound fella cannot score on his 31st bday, Drogba coming back after injury got himself send off for 2 needless yellow-cards.. wat a idiot!.. that Roman fella decide to sit among the fans.. another idiot.. who in e hell as a owner wld wanna sit wif the fans and then knowingly he sure kena abuse when e team SUCKS!!!.... yeap.. sure does...

WIGAN V LIVERPOOL
0-1 (0-0)

PORTSMOUTH V READING
7-4 (2-1)
AOS wor.. but who wld think of that??? lol... read reports that Man U cld muster a return of only scoring 7 goals so far as compared to Portsmouth scoring 7 in a game... CHAMPIONS??? hahaha... eat shit la!!!.....

BIRMINGHAM V MANCHESTER UTD
0-1 (0-0)
now we know.. Champions win only 1-0... and they dun care... as long as its 3 points can liao... if not for that dubious penalty against Chelsea... it wld be another 1-0 game. carry on... U SUCK MAN U!

EVERTON V MIDDLESBROUGH
2-0 (1-0)

TOTTENHAM V ASTON VILLA
4-4 (1-3)
