MAN UNITED v LIVERPOOL
watching this game from Chijmes, not many people fancy the London derby. instead this was the game which everyone was rushing to watch.

Nani strike and 3rd goal for United is sheer class. Liverpool stopper Jose Reina was by then given up in what is a forgettable day for the REDS. first & second goal was sloppy.. in fact too sloppy to concede. of all players, Wes Brown scores.. Ronaldo before this game was not in the scoresheet but nearly netted in couple occasions. one such moment was he placed the ball straight to Reina. only jus clipped his boot and the ball went off the top of the bar for a corner, no offside given. from the resulting corner, Ronaldo outpaced Alonso to head in United 2nd. very very poor defending.

the statistic against United since Benitez took over. a pathetic draw and no wins. one goal scored against United. and a first league title since the Premier League was formed can only be counted as... a DREAM. with such performance, i can only bitterly watch as United celebrate wins after wins every season. wat 18 league championships? United is the team at the moment. they might have loss a few games but consistently winning where it matters.

where was Gerrard?? Torres cuts a loner upfront. Mascherano shld have known better than arguing wif Steve Bennett. gotta himself send off puts an end to Liverpool hopes of holding even a draw.

watever the official says or conducts himself, one has to understand that a game is 90mins long. jus get on wif it and not wasting time telling off the referee that he's a idiot.

can't wait the season to get over with...

.

Manchester United 3 Liverpool 0

Nobody expected it, Reina picked the ball trice from his net after the 1st big clash of the super sunday. Reina was abit "unsteady" since the the kickoff.. His goal kicks, quick throws often landed on the sidelines..(maybe is due to the sunlights) And this is how Wes Brown scored United 1st goal, an unlikely scorer.

Mascherano who already been booked was shown the 2nd yellow card and the red card by referee Steve Bennett. The Argentinian was very buay song with Bennett after he booked Torres for talking too much (arguing) non-stop. Mascherano kept aruging after the red card, and had to be virtually pulled off the pitch. Rafael, out from this comfy Audi seat, also told the midfielder to stay clam. Think Rafael told him, Hey, U SHUT THE F*** UP AND GET BACK TO THE DRESSING ROOM!!

Liverpool's defence was nowhere to be seen when Brown ran in and headed Rooney's cross in the 34th min. Ronaldo too, wasn't picked up by any Liverpool's player when he headed the 2nd goal and substitute Nani scored a stunner to put united 3 up.

Well, maybe Carlsberg was the culprit. Get me?

March 20, 2008

BERN's thoughts on Man United v Liverpool.

nothing comes bigger than the fixture we about to witness coming sunday, 23rd March. its e game featuring 2 of English football most success stories in e last 2 decades. Manchester United hosts Liverpool at Old Trafford during the first of 2 kick-offs for the day.

yes, oh yes.. how i hate United dominance and arrogance during their rise in the early nineties, Cantona, Giggs, Kanchelskis, Ince, Hughes, Bruce, Pallister, Irwin, Keane & Schemichel swept all who stand in their way... then came the Neville bros, Scholes, Butt, Beckham, Yorke, Cole, Sol-sia til today Van de Sar, Rooney, Ronaldo, Nani, Evra, Vidic, Ferdinand. nothing is stopping them now... alot of punters thought Derby wld suffered again after letting in 6 against Chelsea. but a solitary goal is all matters, then followed by last night 2-0 win over Bolton. the lead is now 3 points from Arsenal in 2nd position.

calling it jealous? i rather envy... Ferguson had the ability to bring out the best in players that he nurtured... think of his "Fergie fledgings"... United is never off from runners-up spot cept for once. against the likes of the other 3 of the BIG 4. United ruthlessly whacked them... as recently as the 4-0 rout of Arsenal in FA Cup 5th round tie. the 2-0 league win over Chelsea, the December victory at Anfield which until now, for me to think bout it.. hurts man!

Rafael Benitez did not have any wins over Fergie men since he took the Anfield hotseat. cept a 1-0 FA Cup 5th round victory in 2006. in the league? a draw and all losses.

do i really think Benitez can outsmart Fergie this time... i doubt so.. yes, im a REDS, true to it, thats y i think Liverpool would find it tough to even win at Old Trafford. more importantly, this being a league game. United will wanna stregthen their grip at e top of table. but we've seen how Man City, Portsmouth beat them on their own turf... nothing is impossible. Ronaldo and Rooney even Tevez will be the main threat here. Liverpool have to be on their toes in the penalty-box and not give away set-pieces which is by now we all know its Ronaldo showtime.

how i wish Liverpool could repeat the wins at Old Trafford during consecutive seasons in 2000/01 & 2oo1/02 where both times ended 1-0 to the REDS and both times were scored by Danny Murphy. its still possible to win. no one is favourites, unless Liverpool performed like boys playing on a hard-court.

after the loss to Portsmouth, United chalked up league wins over Derby & Bolton, Liverpool winning everything before them after the Barnsley debacle. a draw is unlikely, there will be a winner. both equally strong. though im afraid Benitez might tinker wif his line-up... after Old Trafford comes the Merseyside derby before those 3 games against Arsenal.

COME ON REDS. come on!

1 goal is my pick.

MAN UNITED stretch lead to 3 points, CHELSEA held in 8-goal thriller.

Manchester United brushed aside Bolton to move three points clear of Arsenal at the top of the Premier League.

Stand-in skipper Cristiano Ronaldo was in brilliant form, shooting home from a corner before striking a sensational free-kick that moved through the air.

Bolton, who have lost their last five league games, might have equalised but Tomasz Kuszczak denied Kevin Davies.

Kuszczak also denied Nicky Hunt and Gavin McCann while Nani and Ronaldo almost extended United's lead.

It was United's game in hand on Arsenal and they did not waste it, on what turned out to be an excellent night for Sir Alex Ferguson's team.

At one point in the season Bolton had ascended to 13th in the Premier League table but they now appear to be in deep trouble, third from bottom and with games against Arsenal and Chelsea among their remaining eight fixtures.

It was Ronaldo's 23rd Premier League goal of the season - taking him three clear of Fernando Torres at the top of the scoring table.

It was also his 33rd goal of the campaign in all competitions - and takes him past the season record set by George Best in 1968 of 32 goals by a winger.

Robbie Keane's stunning goal gave Spurs a thrilling point against Chelsea.

Didier Drogba headed Chelsea in front after three minutes but Jonathan Woodgate rose to equalise for Spurs.

Michael Essien's clever finish restored Chelsea's lead after 21 minutes and Joe Cole looked to have sealed the points with a third in the 52nd minute.

Dimitar Berbatov's header and a Tom Huddlestone strike put Spurs level, and after Cole hit his second, Keane curled in superbly two minutes from time.

AROUND THE BPL

Brazilian international Gilberto Silva says he will consider leaving Arsenal at the end of the season if he fails to break back into the first team.

The midfielder has struggled to hold down a regular place this season with Arsene Wenger often preferring Mathieu Flamini ahead of the Brazilian.

Gilberto also lost the club captaincy to William Gallas at the start of the season and Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has given the Brazilian just seven league starts all season.

Back in November Gilberto said he was happy to stay and fight for his place, but it now appears he wants to leave at the end of the current campaign.

Police investigating corruption within professional football have raided Birmingham City FC.

Officers swooped at the Premier League club in an "ongoing investigation into football corruption", City of London Police said.

A spokeswoman said it was not linked to the Lord Stevens inquiry into transfers and illegal payments to agents.

The club said the raid related to a police inquiry into "an unconnected third party or third parties".

It said no-one connected with the club had been questioned or arrested.

Lord Stevens published his report last year in which he highlighted concerns about 17 transfer deals involving Premier League clubs.

His inquiry concentrated mainly on illicit payments to agents.

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson expects the title race to go all the way despite his team moving three points clear of Arsenal.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice as United beat Bolton 2-0 to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League.

"It's nip and tuck now," said Ferguson, whose team play Liverpool on Sunday.

United assistant boss Carlos Queiroz said that the team's position is a source of great confidence to the squad.

"It was crucial to win and be in this position with eight games left," said Queiroz. "It gives us the right confidence and motivation.

"It is very positive that from now to the end our it is in our hands."

While United face Liverpool on Sunday, Arsenal travel to Chelsea.

And Queiroz added: "This is a crucial moment in the season, but all the games will be difficult.

Newcastle defender Steven Taylor has backed the supporters to create an atmosphere at St James' Park ahead of Saturday's visit of Fulham.

Monday's draw at Birmingham was helped by a vocal travelling support and Taylor believes the fans can be a big part of their bid to avoid relegation.

He told BBC Radio Newcastle: "We have to make St James' Park intimidating.

"The main thing for us is how our fans are on the day. I don't think we have ever needed them more than we do now."

March 15, 2008

BPL 15th March BERN's pick;

another dose of fixtures awaits us as "BIG 4" are playing tonight.. yea.. wat a way to spend the evening wif fellow supporters to cheer on the team.

my fav. of cos is YOU'll NEVER WALK ALONE, Liverpool.. who is hosting Reading. Man United travel to Pride Park and will come away easily wif 3 points. Spore pools is backing them to win by 3 goals or more. Chelsea, fresh from their 6-1 thrashing of United opponents tonight. wld somewhat have a tricky tie away to Sunderland. Arsenal, who is drawn to play my beloved REDS in Champions League quarter-finals, entertains Middlesbrough on the day's late game.

LIVERPOOL vs READING
Rafa Benitez has no new injury scares to report from his side’s mid-week Champions League tie against Inter Milan, and as such only Steve Finnan (hamstring) and Andrei Voronin (knee) remain unavailable for selection.

Reading will travel to Anfield with question marks existing around the possible participation of Ivory Coast international Emerse Fae due to a bout of malaria. Club captain Graham Murty (knee) and Brynjar Gunnarsson (groin) remain a week away from being available for selection, whilst long term injury absentee Glen Little (achilles) will not be considered for Premiership action for around another month.

HT pick: Liverpool 1-0
LS: D-H

DERBY vs MANCHESTER UNITED
Alan Stubbs strained his calf at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday and is rated doubtful-a major blow as his experience and leadership are vital if Derby are to do anything other than crumble. Winger Craig Fagan has departed for Hull on loan this week. Long term absentees are Claude Davis (knee) and Tyrone Mears (shin). Giles Barnes flew to the USA this week to see a specialist regarding his suspected damaged knee cap and looks likely to miss the rest of the season.

Gary Neville may make his long-anticipated comeback following his successful negotiation of 73 minutes for the Reserves on Wednesday night, but Bolton next Wednesday is perhaps a more realistic target. Ryan Giggs is also in line for a possible return. Ben Foster will make his debut in goal due to Edwin Van der Saar’s groin strain and Tomas Kuszczak’s suspension. Louis Saha is rated doubtful.

3/5 goals

SUNDERLAND vs CHELSEA
Transfer listed Ross Wallace misses the remainder of the season with knee ligament damage and Carlos Edwards missing with a broken leg. Andy Reid is pushing for a place in the team sheet after impressive sub appearances recently.

First choice keeper Petr Cech is doubtful with an ankle injury so Carlo Cudicini may continue in goal. Other than that Grant has a fully fit squad to choose from, with Dider Drigba and Michael Essien pushing for a recall to the starting line-up.

Chelsea -1.5

ARSENAL vs MIDDLESBROUGH
Theo Walcott undergo a fitness test on Friday, having injured his thigh a week ago in a behind-closed-doors match against Colorado Rapids, with only a slight chance of being fit for the Middlesbrough game. Emmanuel Eboue is available again after missing the last three domestic games through suspension, but Tomas Rosicky (hamstring) and Abou Diaby (calf) are not yet ready.

Seb Hines twisted his knee in a reserves game against Manchester United a week go and will be out for a few weeks, while Andrew Taylor played for the reserves on Tuesday following a foot operation. Matthew Bates is a long-term absentee with cruciate knee ligament damage, and goalkeeper Brad Jones dislocated a finger this week and will be sidelined for four to five weeks.

Brazilian striker Afonso Alves missed the midweek game at Aston Villa through illness but could be available to face Arsenal. and so the same for former Gunners' striker Jeremie Aliadiere could return after completing a ban, while Fabio Rochemback's suspension for two games after reaching ten yellow cards will not begi until the next two games after this one. Tom Craddock completed a loan spell at Hartlepool on Friday.

CL results and BPL midweek preview;

Liverpool FC became the fourth English club to make it through to the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals after Fernando Torres struck in the second half to knock-out ten-man FC Internazionale Milano.

The Spanish international's 26th goal of the season, and his fourth in this competition, gave the Reds a three-goal aggregate lead which was to prove insurmountable for the Italian champions. The Nerazzurri elimination at the first knockout stage provides Liverpool to dream of a third final appearance in four attempts.

Only blot on Liverpool's evening was a booking for Gerrard which rules the captain out of the quarter-final first leg.

Zat Knight will step in for Curtis Davies who is out with an achilles problem. Nigel Reo-Coker should be available despite a recent back injury, while Olof Mellberg is doubtful for the game with an ankle problem.

PORTSMOUTH vs BIRMINGHAM CITY
After their FA Cup heroics, Redknapp may rotate his players to freshen things up.
The fitness of his players won’t be in question, but to stave off any cup hangover Redknapp may bring Milan Baros and Lauren back into the starting XI.

Alex McLeish has a relatively fresh squad to call upon, as the Blues haven’t been in action since the memorable 4-1 thrashing of Spurs on March 1st. with only forward Olivier Kapo still ruled out with a hamstring problem and Martin Taylor serving the second game of his three-match ban.

Alan Curbishley has Bowyer and Etherington still out: seven goals so far this season have come from one of these two, so it's a major problem. Scott Parker will also miss this one. Bobby Zamora is fighting to be fit in time.

Avram Grant has an almost fully fit squad to choose from, but that is where his problems begin. Will he leave out Makelele or Mikel? Lampard or Ballack? Joe Cole or Anelka? His team selection is vital, and after getting it horribly wrong last weekend, Grant finds himself under pressure to make the right choices.

FULHAM vs MAN UNITED
Midfielder Simon Davies is likely to return to the Fulham side after suspension. Striker Diomansy Kamara could find himself named as a substitute. Litmanen is out injured, while Andreasen is suspended.

United have slight doubts about the fitness of defenders Vidic and Evra. Otherwise, Sir Alex can chose from a full strength squad but is likely to hold back his more senior players for the Lyon test in midweek. Giggs should recover from his leg injury suffered against Lyon but should expect to be kept in reserve.

BIRMINGHAM vs TOTTENHAM
Martin Taylor starts his 3 match ban. Raidi looks like stepping in as a replacement. Liam Ridgewell is a doubt, while Kapo is out.

Woodgate is a big doubt after twisting his ankle. Gilberto is ready for a starting spot. Bent, O'Hara and Huddlestone could be in place for a start as well, as manager Ramos makes his selections with the UEFA tie midweek in mind.
